How To Prevent a Clogged Toilet

Clogged toilets are annoying, to say the least. They can disrupt your day, especially if you don’t know how to fix them. Following a few simple tips, you can prevent a clogged toilet disaster in your home or business.

If you notice that your toilet is getting clogged more often than usual, there are things you could be doing to prevent a clogged toilet!

Check out our top 4 tips for avoiding a clogged toilet.

Only Flush Flushable Items.

Clogged toilets can be avoided 90% of the time by simply only flushing toilet paper and natural waste. Things like “flushable” wipes, feminine hygiene products, and paper towels should not be disposed of in the toilet, even if the packaging says they can.

Keep the Toilet Lid Closed

This is especially important if you have small children or animals. Small children are known to sneak toys or other weird objects into toilets while their parents aren’t paying attention. If those toys get flushed, they can lead to some tough clogs to unclog.

Keeping the toilet lid closed could also help prevent anything stored on top of the toilet tank from falling in, but to be safe, you should avoid storing things on top of the toilet tank.

Try Using Less Toilet Paper!

If you notice an unusual number of clogged toilets in your home, but you’ve tried every other method for preventing clogged toilets, your issue may be the amount of toilet paper you use. Cutting back on the amount you use per flush could prevent clogged toilets and solve your issues.

Address Slow Drains

A slow-draining toilet can indicate that a clog is forming somewhere in your pipes. As soon as you notice slow drains, address the problem. Use a plunger to solve slow drains as they occur preemptively.

If You’re too late to prevent a clogged toilet, call High Speed Plumbing!

Clogged toilets can happen even if you are following all these tips. The problem may be your toilet and not how you use it. If you’re experiencing a lot of clogged toilets, consider calling a professional plumber at High Speed Plumbing to find out what the problem is and fix it quickly!
