Can you put food-covered dishes in the dishwasher?

Many people say that yes, it is safe to put food-covered dishes in a dishwasher. After all, it’s called a dishwasher, it should wash! That’s true, but note that it’s not called a garbage disposal. If there are chunks of food still on the plate, they may get broken up by water jets but they may not. either way, they can easily clog your drain lines and could result in a call to High Speed Plumbing. Scrape or wipe your plates before putting them in the dishwasher and you’ll be good to go.

Are sticky labels safe for the dishwasher?

Everyone hates trying to get sticky paper labels off of new dishes, jars, and plastic ware. However, you do need to make every effort to remove them. If you don’t, then they could come loose and end up clogging the drain or filter in your dishwasher. The easiest way to remove them is to soak the item in hot water and then use a knife to scrap the label off.

Can you glue a dish back together and then put it in the dishwasher?

What happens if your favorite dish breaks? Can you grab some glue, put it back together, and put in the dishwasher? The short answer is that no, it’s not a good idea. No matter what type of adhesive you used, it’s likely that it can loosen when going through the hot dishwasher cycles. Wash them by hand to avoid this.

Can I put my coffee travel mug in the dishwasher?

Yes – but only if it says it’s dishwasher safe. The main issue with these is that water can seep inside the insulation. This can result in too much moisture hanging around, and can create a risk of mold which won’t be good for your health or your taste buds.

Can I put my best dishes in the dishwasher?

If you have dishware that you love then we wouldn’t recommend putting it in the dishwasher. The truth is that silverware or other projectiles can come loose, bounce around in the dishwasher, and harm your expensive dishes. If you have any type of dishes that you’d be devastated that it broke, then we recommend keeping those for the sink only.
