Learn How to Avoid 3 of the Most Common Summer Plumbing ProblemsIf you are like most people in the South Bay, you are excited that summer is upon us. While we at High Speed Plumbing hope everyone can get out there and enjoy the sun, we also want to make our customers aware of potential summer plumbing issues to look out for. If you experience these or other plumbing emergencies, contact us at 1-888-958-1394 for immediate help.

  1. Clogged Drains

The summer months can lead to clogged drains – especially in the garage. This is due to a few factors, including the fact that you may have more people at your home. The kids aren’t at school, you may have summer hours, and you may have people in from out of town. With that extra use comes extra wear and tear – and that can mean a clogged drain.

To help lower the chances that you end up with a clogged drain this summer, make sure you are not putting coffee grounds, food scraps, bacon grease (or other oil), wet wipes, napkins, or paper towels down any drain. Look at the drain outside of your garage especially because it is out of the way and you may not notice a clog until it has become a serious issue. Make sure it is free from leaves, debris, etc.

  2. Collapsed Sewage Drains

It can get dry here in the summer, depending on the year. When the ground is drier than it normally should be, then anything in the ground can be affected – including sewage lines. It can take years of heat for serious damage to happen, such as cracking, you can help prevent this long-term, expensive damage by keeping your lawn watered in dry months. If you have unburied pipes outdoors, protect them with breathable insulation. Need help with this? Contact High Speed Plumbing at 1-888-958-1394.

  3. Block Gutters

Most people think of blocked gutters as resulting from one thing: Leaves. While leaves are a common culprit, they are not the only culprit. Any type of debris can clog them up, including grass clippings, flower petals, twigs, leaves, etc. This can create huge issues such as backed-up drains and, in worst-case scenarios, leaking or entirely burst pipes.

Keep an eye on your gutters to ensure they are free from debris. If it has been awhile since you have done so, have the professional clean them out. If your gutters have seen better days, then it may be time to replace them. This will be well worth the expense in the long run.
