You Have Water Stains in Your Home
Paint on Your Walls or Ceiling is Peeling or Chipped
Your Floor or Carpet is Damp
It Feels Like Areas of Your Flooring Have Sunken
You See Sparks When You Turn on a Switch or Appliance
In many cases, water stains are the first sign of a leak within the home. You can find a water stain on the ceiling or the wall of your home. If you see one, you should always take it seriously. It is a sure sign that there is water within the walls or ceiling of your home.
In some cases, a water stain won’t show up but you will see that the paint on your walls has started peeling or chipping. If you notice this out of nowhere, look closer to see if there are water stains. Of course, as time goes on any paint is going to eventually peel and / or chip, but if it happens suddenly then it may be a sign of a serious issue.
If you walk into your bedroom and there is a damp spot with no obvious sign, then it could be that you have a pluming leak that is coming from under the floor. If it happens once then you may not have reason to worry. After all, someone could have spilled something without telling you. However, if the spot doesn’t dry, or if it gets wet again, then it may be a sign of a leak.
If you are walking through a portion of your home and it seems like one section is “sunken,” this could be a sign that a long-term leak has affected the subfloor of your home. This can get much worse very quickly so you should contact a plumber right away.
If you turn on a switch and sparks fly out, or the same thing happens when you turn on an appliance, then you should turn the offending appliance or switch off at the circuit box. It may be that water has made its way into your electrical system and this is a serious, life-threatening issue that should warrant you calling your plumber right away.
